1992 E-350 Sparkplug R&R

Post by olscow »

Our new-to-us BF24RB is about due for new plugs, based on the previous owner's maintenance records. I've looked in, over, and under this rig, and really can't figure out how I can get at all eight plugs and change them. Anyone had experience with this?

Thanks.

Have you removed the "dog house" (engine cover) yet?

Well, I took Bill's advice and looked one more time under the doghouse. I ended up getting numbers 3 and 4 (passenger side rear), and 6,7,and 8 (driver's side rear) from under the doghouse. Numbers 1 and 2 (pass side front) were a tight squeeze from under the hood. Number 5 (front driver's side) was a wooly booger... finally got it from underneath. SUSPICIONS CONFIRMED: I did not take this job to a shop because I figured a mechanic in a hurry just might not change all 8 plugs. SURE ENOUGH: The five easy plugs were all AC's, in good condition. The hard three were rusty, badly worn Motorcraft (Ford) plugs, I think probably there since the chassis was built, 14 years and 57,000 miles ago! Thanks, Bill...

Roger:

I don't think that what you found is uncommon. Unfortunately, it is getting harder and harder to find good, honest automotive repair facilities.

On the bright side, by doing it yourself, you know it was done right. Good job!
