I received two 12v AGM batteries as Christmas gifts. Can I safely use them without changing the shore power converter in my 2002 BF26RSB?
Will the charger be too strong on the AGM batteries?
Thanks!

Is an AGM battery a lithium battery?

Most new smart chargers are suitable for AGM's. If your coach has not had it's original converter replaced then you should replace it before installing the AGM's.

My coach has the original converter. I see 30 and 60 amp replacements that appear to replace the entire power center. Which size converter is recommended for the upgrade?

My error. Units are 55 amp and 65 amp.

You can search this site for information on Progressive Dynamics converters and how to install them.

Recommend replacing your existing single stage charger/converter with the Progressive Dynamics PD4655V unit as recommended in the Coach Modifications section on this forum. If you order the unit from BestConverter.com, Randy at that company can set it up properly for AGM batteries.

AGM is not lithium. It is a lead-acid battery. AGM stands for Absorbed Glass Mat. It is a sealed battery and requires no maintenance. It can be installed in any position except upside down.

The charging profile is slightly different for AGM vs. standard flooded cell. It would be best to replace your converter with a 3 stage one. As Bill mentioned, have it set up for AGM.

Thank you! I have ordered the suggested converter and will update this post after it is installed.
Thanks for the quick and complete answer to my questions.

The replacement of the original single stage converter with a three stage unit went well.
I ordered the replacement unit as suggested and it arrived as promised in two days.
Removal and replacement of the original unit was easier than I expected but still took about 6 hours.
Thank you for your help in this important upgrade.
