I try to keep it at 65 on the GPS but with average speeds in TX pushing into the 90s in places, 65 is a moving chicane and about as dangerous.

I run 63 mph on the interstates. Not because of my tires but because running faster starts chewing into my 8.5 mpg fuel economy with a toad behind.

I take a more leisurely pace. Top speed for me 60mph. I've been across Texas twice in the past 4 years, mostly on I-10 and didn't feel at all intimidated.

I would run 70 mph in my Foretravel but the max I feel comfortable more then 65. So I set the cruise about 63 and run. But out west with the 80 mph limits, I will only run 65. It is usually not heavily travelled so it is not an issue.

I 75 at 55 MPH

We drove about 50 miles on I-75 n in FL today typically at 55, occasionally to 60 mph. As usual we had no issues. It's mostly a 3 lane road. Interestingly our tow car did not accumulate miles on the odometer.

Norm, if your toad has a modern digital odometer, it will not accumulate miles being towed. If it has the older technology mechanical odometer, the towed miles will be accumulated.

Vlamgat has a point about those high speed highways out west. The vehicles whizzing past can be very disturbing but frankly I don't feel very comfortable driving a 27' Born Free at 70 mph let alone 80. 65 is my max and I usually keep it at 60. I really don't think there is any large vehicle that is truly safe operating at the maximum speeds you see out in west Texas.

Maybe it's old age.
We live in orange and cattle country in Florida. The one lane each direction state road in front of our campground is posted at 60 mph. Drive the speed limit and everyone passes you.

I note that CA considered unlimited speeds on selected highways and there's a general push to higher speeds in many states.

I'm use to people flying by me. We've now driven about 300 miles on I-10 West and I still haven't passed anyone.

Still averaging 10 mpg.
