Heads up on PCV valve

Post by springerbill »

Just a heads up if your V10 engine starts to use oil !!! Our 02 26' RB normally uses no engine oil between changes. Suddenly, it started using a quart of oil each 300 miles. As it turns out, there was nothing seriously wrong. The PCV valve became clogged. The valve was changed and the oil consumption has ceased. The valve costs $22.00 from a Ford dealership. To install it, remove the engine cover inside the coach, unhook the old valve, and install the new one. The owners manual states to change the valve at 120,000 miles. Bill Lyon

Hi Bill:

How many miles did you have on your coach when the PCV valve became clogged? In the old days we could pulled the valve, soaked it in silvent, blown it out with compressed air and reinstalled it - good as new. Could this have been done with the one on the V10, or is replacement absolutely necesary?

Thanks, Bill

The coach has 57,000 miles. Don't know about being able to clean the old PCV with a solvent then reuse it. I'm not positive this one was clogged. It may have been a defective PCV.
