The question is do you need 2000 watts of AC power? My experience with inverters is that the high power units are quite inefficient when under low load. I wired in a cheap 400 watt inverter into the circuit for the electrical outlets. Almost all the outlets go to the GFI breaker in the electrical pa...

After my shades failed, I went to IKEA and purchased a couple of curtain wire assemblies and some heavy weight curtains. The wire assemblies screw into the spot where the top bobbins were. The curtains work much better at blocking out the light than the shades. Curtain wire: http://www.ikea.com/us/e...

I installed my Winegard so that it lays down to the side instead of to the rear. I had to cut off 8" from the arms so that the antenna doesn't stick out over the side when cranked down. I've put on about 4,000 miles since installing it with no ill effects. For units already installed it would m...

If you're talking about the fluorescent fixtures, pull off the the frosted plastic cover to get at the tubes. Each tube has two pins at each end that slide into two groves in the sockets. Just push the ends of the tubes out of the sockets.

Bill, sorry about the confusion. I was referring to the Xantrex Freedom 458 inverter-charger, which is the subject of the original post.

Just to add to the confusion, there is a transfer switch within the converter/inverter unit. This is the switch I was referring to. This switches between shore/generator power and inverter power.

The flashing charge LED indicates that external A.C. power is not present. You need to make sure that the 110 volt out from the step-down transformer is getting to the inverter/charger. If 110 volt is getting to the inverter/charger the most likely culprit would be the built-in transfer switch which...

Bill is spot on with his analysis. The safest approach is to use a DC-to-DC converter. This will boost voltages less than 12 volts and reduce voltages greater than 12 volts maintaining a constant 12 volts out. This should not be confused with a regulator which is only capable of reducing a higher vo...

I don't know if the silicone helped or just tightening the screws did it. It was okay for a while but the squeaks have returned.

To get at the screws peel back the fabric just above the driver or passenger door. They go up through the top of the door frame into the cabover.
