Public Campgrounds Resource

Ted has an interesting website with detailed information about the campgrounds he has stayed in and photos as well. We often use this source as we travel. When traveling "out of season" in the Northeast, Ted told us about a site in northern New Jersey ~ Mahlon-Dickerson Reservation~ that is open all year with electicity (no water in winter). We have stayed there several times already, in spite of seeing a rather large bear the first night camping!!!

Thank you Tom and Jennifer. This is a nice resource. We still carry quite a library of campground directories with us but rarely use them to find the commercial RV parks anymore - preferring google searches for commercial sites and Walmarts etc. However, good resources for parks, public lands, utility company sites and small city parks are hard to find on the web. Here's one that lists a lot of the very small and remote spots (hunter camps) out west.
http://publiclands.org/ It's OK but still misses many of our favorites!
I'll bet there are quite a few resources available that, due to their limited commercial value, are hard to find on the web.

For National Forest Campgrounds, the best resource I have seen is:
http://www.forestcamping.com/
The site lists every NF CG, in the USA, which is accessible by RV, and the authors have actually visited about 98%-99% of them over the last 10 years or so.

For those of you with smart phones the App called "All Stays Camp & RV" has been great for us. A bit on the high side as Apps go, but, for us worth every penny. It has public, private, state, federal, and military campgrounds, searchable by location name or on a map. It links to reviews, photos, web sites and has a summary of numbers and types of sites, as well as phone numbers. It also lists things like Walmarts, Costcos, cracker Barrels, larger gas stations, cabelas,and many other services. Things are searchable with filters to limit the search to what you are looking for. We have it on an iPad, but, I think they have an Android version. Beats books that are out of date and bulky hands down. They have other apps in the series for hotels, shopping, restaurants etc.

Yes, I use that one frequently. I even bought some of their CDs so I could view them offline. Very detailed information.
